What you need is for them to not be politically appointed. Considering you have a two-party system that will only ever lead to a tug of war. Y’all limit your president to 8 years but let the Thankful for my little Turkey teacher thanksgiving design shirt and by the same token and judges stick around forever. It is absurd. How could the court be anything but partisan when that is the set up? It’s only 8 years for the president because George Washington set that precedent. Before FDR ran and won 4 straight times until he literally died in office. There wasn’t actually a law saying a president could only get re-elected twice. Presidents just took after Washington and walked away after 8. But they created it after FDR died, because they didn’t want anyone like him ever being elected again. They called him the, “biggest threat to democracy in the nation’s history”. If FT was in charge we would have a law saying “The maximum age of any government employee is the minimum age of Social Security retirement. Any employee reaching age of retirement is automatically retired from their position on their birthday.”

No more 75+ year old presidents, congress critters, judges etc. All the Thankful for my little Turkey teacher thanksgiving design shirt and by the same token and way down to the local postman. Nobody working for govt should be over 70 years of age. i wouldn’t kick elected officials out on their birthday just appointees. elected just can’t run if their term would start after their birthday. One: it’s not constitutional. And it never will be. That should be enough for people to stop wasting time with this. Two: It won’t fix the problem. The problem is that SCOTUS judges need senate confirmation, and the Senate has a +6 conservative advantage. Conservative senators will simply hold seats open until they can confirm the extremists they want. Expand the court to 13 justices, and make the four new justices 35 year old, reliable and fully-vetted progressives That will fix 75% of our problems. The senate will still be utter-fucked levels of broken, but slightly less than before. Say it’s the first day of a Democratic presidential administration, but Republicans control the Senate, and a justice has to retire due to term limits. Term limits mean that you replace shitty people more often. It does not, in any way, guarantee or even suggest that the people that replace them will be any better.
