There’s a reason most major corporations unofficially force retirement of employees and board members around a similar age range. mandatory retirement age for all elected positions should be tied to the social security retirement age. if you’re old enough to retire from private sector work, you have no business making decisions for the rest of the country.

If a justice dies or has to step down then that seat is filled immediately. If the current president has already appointed 2 justices then it’s a temporary appointment until the next president takes office. If the president hasn’t done both their appointments yet then the emergency seat fill is one of theirs Every president is guaranteed 2 appointments. Congress has 1 year to approve the nomination (before the next Congress starts) and if they don’t then the nomination is automatically approved (sort of like a pocket veto). We need term limits for more than Supreme Court justices..but guess who has to vote to impose those limits? that would be the people that get limited.
